Jet Hellebore
【 human | male | 18 years old | 6'2" / 189 cm | bi 】
Jet is a student at Beacon Academy and the leader of Team JSPR. His weapon of choice is a large metal hammer named Aurochs.
The information in this carrd covers Jet in his V1-V2 iteration, as well as all of the basic level information about him. Information about Jet in his V7-V8 iteration, and how he has evolved by that point, can be found here, so please read if you wish to know more.
Appearance
Jet is a tall young man with a dark complexion, gold colored eyes, and messy black hair that tends to fluff up all on its own. He is well built, thanks to the length of time he has trained with his heavy weapon.
His combat attire is reminiscent of a knight, with dark colored armor protecting his chest, shoulders, and lower legs. His chestplate and pauldrons are shaped somewhat like a bull's head, sticking closely with Jet's overall theme. Underneath his armor he wears a dark gray shirt with silvery lining, white pants, and a long reddish-orange scarf. He also wears fingerless gloves that have plates on the back of the hand.
Like the other male students at Beacon Academy, Jet wears the usual suit-and-tie uniform while taking classes and performing other school activities. His usual nighttime clothes are a large shirt with a hellebore flower design on it, knee length shorts, and Pumpkin Pete slippers. Jet also owns a dark red suit with black accents, specifically for the dance during the Vytal Festival.

Personality
At a glance, Jet appears to be a very calm, composed, and somewhat aloof individual. He is not particularly chatty, and when he does speak it is with a firm tone that exudes confidence. However, this hardened exterior is nothing more than a cool facade Jet has built up in order to maintain a reputation.
In reality, Jet is rather relaxed and is a fun-loving person, although his definition of "fun" is not exactly partying with every student he shares a space with. He is sweet, kind, loyal, and he cherishes his friends as though they were family. His distant behavior melts away once he is around friends, instead indulging in jokes and general clowning around, regardless if others he would ordinarily act cold around may be present.
Jet is an effective leader, able to cooperate, strategize, and deliver support to his teammates with ease. In a scenario that demands seriousness, he is able to focus on the events occurring and lead his team to the best outcome he can manage. Despite this, due to the nature of his three teammates, they don't seem to listen to him outside of combat scenarios very often, even making him the butt of the joke quite frequently. Even so, while he may become frustrated with them, he does his best not to become too angry about their antics. After all, being the most responsible one on this shitshow of a team, he needs to be able to clean up the messes that the others start, and being mad will not help a thing.
While many of these traits make him seem like the ideal student, Jet also has a tenancy to internalize problems he deems he should solve on his own. If it regards the team, other classmates, or an issue beyond his own control, he will gladly discuss it with others in order to resolve it. However, certain things such as personal growth and emotional issues are kept behind sealed lips. Jet is under the belief that as a leader it is important to take care of your teammates, to guide and protect them whenever you can, but also to be strong enough to handle things on your own. Strong, in this case, being every sense of the word. Jet is always striving to grow stronger and stronger, physically, mentally, and emotionally, but because of this, he places burdens on himself that really have no reason to be there in the first place. And just like many other issues, they are internalized and kept hidden away, as though nothing were wrong. He believes overcoming such things on his own will help him grow as an individual and avoids bothering his friends, but in truth it is an unhealthy behavior that may prove to be problematic in the future.
Weapon
Jet's weapon is one of three made for him and his sisters by their mother, who was an incredibly skilled huntress before she retired. All of three are simple melee weapons with no built in ranged functionality, unlike many of the weapons Beacon students favor, and their effectiveness depends solely on the wielder's capability.
Jet's weapon, Aurochs, is a metal hammer with a retractable handle for portability purposes. The flat end of its head is wide enough for someone small to stand on (which is an opportunity frequently taken with his teammate Peach), but is otherwise compact makes it reasonably easy to carry around. The back end of the head has a sharp blade that reaches around like an axe, making backhanded swings capable of cutting through both objects and Grimm.
Thanks to the size and weight of Aurochs, as well as Jet's own moderate speed, his fighting style is extremely reliant on momentum. At the beginning of fights, Jet must begin using the weight of his weapon and the weight of his own body to build up the speed and force that make up his fighting style. Once he has built up the momentum needed, Jet fights in an elegant but forceful manner, each motion flowing into the next, as though his movements were a singular lengthy action. Jet hardly stops moving while fighting, instead using his weapon and semblance to redirect his attacks and interact with his environment.

Semblance
Jet's semblance is the ability to shift the outer layers of his body into stone. Ordinarily, this only affects his skin and any clothes he may be wearing, but with enough focus and exertion, Jet can shift into deeper layers of his body where muscle lies. It is also possible for him to utilize his aura in order to shift a very small portion of the air around his body, but he is not yet skilled enough to do this regularly.
Jet is able to control which parts of his body shift to and from stone as well as when, the effect occurring almost instantly. He can shift multiple parts of his body at a time, even his whole body at once, but the more he shifts and the longer he uses it, the more aura is drained. Jet can generally maintain a stone form for a few minutes at a time, although many limitations exist. For example, while he can transform his head into stone without any issue, this seals any and all orifices, much like a statue, meaning he cannot see or breathe, and his sense of hearing is severely dulled. (As a note, his expression is also preserved when doing this, which may or not be funny depending on the context of the scenario.)
Jet's semblance does not have as much practicality for a huntsman as it might for an ordinary person. Aura lessens blows significantly on its own, and huntsmen and huntresses often have enough strength to break through rocks and boulders, given enough effort. So what good is this semblance anyways? If the stone does not protect you any more than aura, and it doesn't do any more damage than your weapon, then what is the point? The answer to these questions is simple. Jet does not use his semblance in a simple and direct manner within combat. Instead, he uses it to rapidly adjust his weight and weight distribution throughout his body while fighting. A stone may not hurt much more than a fleshy fist, but it certainly does weigh more.
Aside from using it to adjust his movement in combat, Jet often uses his semblance in other practical ways. Weighing down objects and people, blending in with a natural setting, steadying himself when shaky, and easily breaking the surface of water are all good uses for turning oneself into stone.
Jet also tends to shift as a reaction rather than a conscious choice. He often shifts parts of his body momentarily when he is surprised or scared, and sometimes shifts for short periods of time in his sleep as well.
There is also another use for Jet's semblance, although this is very strenuous on his body, requires immense focus, and rapidly tanks his aura. Jet's usual ability is turning himself into stone, but the reverse is also possible-- turning stone into himself. If given the right environment and enough time, Jet can take in the earth around him to add onto the stone layers of his body. This requires him to stick the shifted part of his body into the ground (so far he has only done this with his arms) and remain there for a long period of time, which puts him at a severe disadvantage, but if he is able to pull it off, then the results are fantastic.
Jet is capable of emerging with large hulking masses of stone surrounding his arms, essentially transforming his arms into boulders. His already slow speed his lessened even further, but his offensive capability shoots through the roof. He can swing these giant stone arms along the ground to break through most anything, and he can slam them down on a foe to dish out massive damage. Unfortunately, his aura does not stretch out to cover the additional stone, and only protects what is directly a part of his body deep inside it. Naturally, this means the stone can be broken apart with enough force, and because of the bond created between it and Jet, it ends up hurting him more than it does the attacker.
Every instance of Jet using this reversed ability has lead to him fainting from exhaustion shortly-- if not immediately-- afterwards. As such, it is not something he does on an ordinary basis, and it is only an absolute last resort.
Strengths
Thanks to years of training and honing his style, Jet is very physically powerful. He is able to lift heavy objects with relative ease, and any blow he delivers packs a solid punch. He is clever, observant, and quick thinking, meaning he can adapt to most ordinary fighting styles relatively quickly. His natural sturdiness and high aura give him very good defensive capabilities, cementing his place as Team JSPR's "tank" role.
Weaknesses
While Jet is very powerful, the tradoff is that he is not very quick. In fact, he is significantly slower than many of his fellow students, paling in comparison to two of his teammates, Peach and Saphira, as well as others such as Ruby and Weiss (with her speed glyphs). He is also susceptible to ranged attacks, as his weapon and semblance offer little in the way of help in that regard. Against a quick opponent with enough range and stamina, Jet stands little to no chance of victory. Not to mention that if his aura is broken, there is practically nothing he can do to defend himself. Jet's willingness to help people also can lead him into scenarios where he can be deceived into doing something that hampers him, especially if he is long conned. His devotion to those he cares about can also be used against him. Even if he is well aware that something is a trap, he would rather risk his own life than allow someone he loves to be hurt, or worse.

Trivia
Jet's fairy tale allusion is The Black Bull of Norroway, specifically the black bull/knight himself. All three of his sisters-- Ebony, Sable, and Olive-- are also references to this story. The bull has three brothers that all grant the main character a gift upon visiting them. The family dog, Plum, is essentially Olive's dog as she is almost always found with her. This is a reference to the fruit the youngest brother gives the main character in the fairy tale, which is a plum. Plum is also a bullypit, which is a bulldog/pit bull mix. Don't give me that look of course I'm going to make a bunch of bull references wherever I can lolJet's voiceclaim is Sam Blakeslee, also known as Lupin. He is the voice provider for the Vocaloid DEX.Jet enjoys singing when alone, but becomes flustered if anyone is around to hear it. He can be caught humming to himself fairly frequently though. He manages to hide it rather well, but Jet is secretly a bit of a romantic. He would love to go on a cliched dinner date with someone he fancies someday.Jet harbors a crush on a certain fellow Beacon student, but he would never admit it.
